Everything You Need To Know About Vegan Turmeric Lattes
5min read
Turmeric; the superfood that crops up time and time again in smoothies, soups and aromatic dishes. So, is it a surprise it’s found its way into our favourite coffee shops too?
What is a turmeric latte?
This might seem like just another fad health drink here in the UK, but for thousands of years, turmeric has been used as a spice and as a medicinal herb in India. It is a versatile cooking must-have in some of our favourite recipes. Why not try this warming daal, our Kerelan sundown or this golden milk recipe and see for yourself?
Today, however, we’re focusing on its colourful addition to one of the nation's favourite hot drinks – coffee. Adding a hearty teaspoon of turmeric powder to coffee enhances the earthy notes and brings with it a vibrant golden, Insta-worthy hue.
Much like all the best things in life, recipes vary from cafe to cafe and home to home; but the general idea stays the same.
Health benefits of turmeric
Turmeric has a very impressive set of proven credentials that can help boost brain and body power. The spice itself is a vibrant sunset yellow powder ground from a plant grown in South Asia. Here are some of our favourite health benefits:
- It contains a compound called curcumin which is an anti-inflammatory. Although you might not reap its full benefits from eating turmeric alone, having it with fatty foods, black pepper or in supplement form (like these from Nature’s Best) will allow your body to unlock its full potential
- Turmeric can help boost the body’s antioxidant capacity; meaning that we’re better equipped to protect our cells from illnesses like heart disease, cancers and arthritis. It can also increase the growth of neurons in our brains
Where to buy vegan turmeric lattes
We think coconut milk is your best when it comes to ordering a vegan turmeric latte but experiment and decide for yourself.
If you’re out and about and fancy a warming mug of vegan turmeric latte, it’s worth checking in with your favourite local independent cafes to see if they offer this refreshing coffee, or failing that, then Pret A Manger or Starbucks will help scratch your itch.

How to make vegan turmeric lattes at home
Want a sip of the action at home? Here are some of our top vegan recipes for turmeric lattes:
- This recipe from Simple Vegan Blog is a great place to start. It’s a great introduction to the homemade turmeric latte with a dash of cinnamon for extra warmth with every sip
- If you’re after the best of golden milk and a turmeric latte in one cup, then this recipe from Heavenlynn Healthy is the best of both worlds packed with ginger and cardamom, too
Extra tip: this may sound out-there (although we are already talking about spiced coffee), but adding a dash of black pepper to your vegan latte will unlock your turmeric’s full potential when it comes to the previously mentioned health benefits.
