A Vegan’s Guide To Burger King

by Fabian Jackson

3min read

Sometimes the only thing that can hit the spot is your go-to order from a favourite chain – but what if you’ve recently turned plant-based? It shouldn’t be an issue at Burger King anymore and we’ll tell you why!

Saturday night with a binge-worthy series and a vegan takeaway might have just got a whole lot more Burger King.

Vegan Burger King options

If you’ve been anywhere near Twitter in the past few days you’ve probably noticed that the fast-food royalty has just dropped a vegan rendition of their infamous Chicken Royale and the internet just can’t handle it.

Vegan Royale

A plant-based chicken-style patty that’s made by The Vegetarian Butcher is the centrepiece of this latest Royale rendition. In the burger, you’ll also find plenty of vegan mayo and lettuce in a sesame seed bun.

What’s more, is that this option is officially Vegan Society certified – after other brands have somewhat missed the vegan mark in the past year by sharing cooking equipment, Burger King will keep the strict cooking process separate to meats, eggs and dairy. These are the measures that have allowed for their green tick.

Vegan Bean Burger

Also vegan certified is the bean burger – a fried vegetable patty, topped with lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup and vegan mayo again served on a toasted sesame seed bun.

Plant-Based Whopper

Burger King’s plant-based version of The Whopper currently has a cross-contamination warning (of eggs and milk), so that’s something to be aware of, but we hope they’re able to give this one a green tick soon too.

Vegan sides

The fries at Burger King have also been made vegan-friendly recently and have The Vegan Society’s stamp of approval.

Anyone who has a craving for onion rings might have to get them elsewhere though – Burger King states on their menu that their rings are cooked in the same oil as the fish and chicken in its menu.

Meat-Free Mondays

What’s more is that Burger King, according to the Vegconomist, “is to introduce ‘Meat Free Mondays’ nationwide for all app-users” and customers will be encouraged to choose plant-based meals with discounts.
