Are Mentos Vegan?
3min read
We know that when you combine mentos and a diet coke you’ll witness a momentous eruption – but are the soft mints themselves suitable for vegans? Keep reading to find out more.
Mentos
Anyone who knows their history of mints will be aware that Mentos has been around since the early 20th century – pretty good going by anyone’s standards!
The Dutch company that originally produced the mints were called van Melle and the two brothers who founded it first thought up the idea for a peppermint-flavoured caramel candy on a train ride to Poland. Around 70 years later (and numerous new flavours) the van Melle group merged with Italian company Perfetti and they continue to produce the sweets to this day.
Are Mentos suitable for vegans?
As Mentos produce many products, there isn’t a straight yes or no to answer this question. Quite a few options from Mentos are suitable for vegans, but it’s always worth checking the ingredients list.
If beeswax or carmine (a red food colouring derived from beetles) are listed then the product isn’t going to be vegan-friendly.
Are fruit Mentos vegan?
Again it’s worth checking the pack’s ingredients list, but most UK fruit Mentos don’t contain either of the above, so they can be considered vegan.
