Are Protein Bars Healthy?
1min read
Protein bars are more popular than ever, with many opting for them post-workout or simply as a snack to have during the day. But are they actually healthy? Read on for what you need to know.
What are protein bars?
Protein bars are snacks that, like protein shakes, are intended to be consumed for more protein in one’s diet. Eating enough protein is crucial to developing stronger muscles, especially after exercise.
Are protein bars healthy?
While these bars are high in protein, they may also be high in other things that may not be quite as good for you to have a lot of. Some bars will have added sugars and sweeteners, as well as chocolate which means they have the same calorie content as some of your favourite sweets and chocolate bars, while some contain more whole-food approaches to ingredients. As a result, there is a sliding scale of how healthy protein bars are, depending on which variety you buy. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t eat them — even the ones that are higher in calories. It just means they’re a treat, like many other things, that should be eaten in moderation; however, they can absolutely still be a part of a perfectly balanced and healthy diet.
