Are Prunes Good For You?

Prunes have a bad reputation as a fruit but they actually have a number of properties that show they could be good for you. Read on to find out the full lowdown. 

What are prunes?

Prunes are dried plums. Once dried, they can be found in packets or tinned and in syrup. Prunes are eaten around the world, and are especially used in desserts globally — from prune jams to pastries. 

Do prunes have nutritional value?

Prunes have a good nutritional profile, including:

  • High fibre content with 1.7g per 30g portion. Prunes are a well-known remedy to help relieve constipation due to being high in fibre
  • great source of vitamin A, which supports the immune system
  • Great source of iron and potassium
  • Contains protein 1g of protein per 30g portion

Are prunes good for you?

Prunes have been shown to improve overall digestive health as a result of its fibrous properties, and can help regulate blood sugar. It may be worth incorporating small portions into your diet to promote a good digestive system.
