Are sesame seeds healthy?
Sesame seeds have a long history in herbal and folk medicines for thousands of years, and recent research has proved that they’re worth their weight in, well, tahini. So, in short, sesame seeds are healthy!
Are roasted sesame seeds good for you?
Flavour and texture-wise you’ll get far more out of sesame seeds if you roast or toast them first (think extra nutty and crunchy), but is there a nutritional difference?
Whilst there is a noticeable difference between the two (with cooked sesame seeds having a slightly lower mineral, vitamin and other nutrient content) there isn’t such a significant difference.
The health benefits of sesame seeds
Adding sesame seeds into your diet can help lower cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart disease and they’re thought to lower blood pressure due to their high magnesium content. They’re also a brilliant source of dietary fibre which is key in maintaining our digestive health.
