Are Sundried Tomatoes Healthy?

by Toni Olukiran

1min read

Delicious in pasta or great paired with olives and your favourite wine, sundried tomatoes are beautiful, especially in the warmer months. But are they healthy? Read on for the lowdown.

What are sundried tomatoes?

Sundried tomatoes are tomatoes that have been heated up at low temperatures for long periods of time, drying them out as the name suggests. This would’ve previously occurred by using the sun, however nowadays industrial kitchen equipment is used.

Are sundried healthy?

Sun-dried tomatoes have a good nutritional profile; it’s a great source of vitamin C, and also contains vitamins K, potassium and folate. They are also very high in lycopene, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent cell damage caused by free radicals (e.g pollution, UV rays). Ultimately, sundried tomatoes are tasty and full of flavour, as well as containing a robust nutritional profile, making them a great addition to your diet.
