When trying to make your kid’s playroom a little greener, or when looking for a gift for a little one, finding eco-friendly toys isn’t always easy.
Defining an eco-friendly toy is a tough task that unavoidably draws criticism from those who have their own priorities and standards. What most of us can agree on, though, is that the heavily packaged and battery-powered plastic specimens that fill most toy shop shelves are not by any real definition eco-friendly.
That’s why we’ve put together a list of eco-friendly toys that are made with clear concern for the environment in terms of materials and/or production processes to make this easier. And we’ve also included items that will engage young people with their planet and that will last, as what could be more sustainable as a toy (and its learnings) that lasts for generations?
