Everything There Is To Know About Vegan Shrimp
3min read
Want to know more about the latest plant-based food trend to be blowing up Twitter? Keep reading to learn all about vegan shrimp – homemade, shop-bought and eating out.
Why vegan shrimp?
Because absolutely why not – with many vegans opting to abstain from meat, seafood and animal products for environmental and ethical reasons, there is a growing demand for plant-based replicas. The latest plant-based culinary miracle takes the form of vegan seafood. And the internet loves it.
Sophie’s Vegan Shrimp
Sophie’s Kitchen, a US plant-based ‘seafood’ company is behind a lot of the hype. The shrimp in question are made from vegan ingredients and get their ‘fishy’ texture and salty flavours mostly from carrageen seaweed and alginate.
And they’re not only owning the hyper-realistic vegan shrimp game, but they also produce plant-based ‘Toona’, crab cakes, fish fillets and smoked salmon.
Vegan shrimp recipe from scratch
The other side of this vegan food trend is making your plant-based shrimp from scratch and king oyster mushrooms seem to be the most popular base ingredient. If you fancy having a go yourself and seeing what all the fuss is about, why not try this recipe from Olives For Dinner and let us know what you think!
