With more and more milk alternatives on the market, the ingredients may feel more unfamiliar to those new to the plant-milk space. We break down what hemp milk is, how it’s made, and where you can find it.

What is hemp milk?

Hemp milk is a type of plant-based milk derived from hemp seeds. Hemp seeds come from the cannabis sativa plant, however contain no mind-altering properties as hemp seeds do not contain THC, the psychoactive compound that causes a high.

How is hemp milk made?

Hemp milk is made in a very similar way to most other plant milk. The hemp seeds are blended with water before being strained, creating milk. Commercial hemp milk can also be heated, and stabilisers, sweeteners and flavourings can be added in.

Is hemp milk good for you?

Hemp milk has several health benefits. It can help improve skin, as hemp oil has been shown to improve conditions such as eczema, acne and psoriasis. Hemp milk can also help with brain and heart health due to high levels of fatty acids omega-6 and C-Reactive protein.

Where can you buy hemp milk?

Due to its increasing popularity, hemp milk can now be found in most supermarkets; the hemp milk brand Good Hemp is stocked in Tesco and Sainsbury’s
