Sea moss is another ingredient talked about for its ‘superfood’ properties — but what actually are the benefits of taking sea moss capsules? We answer your questions and guide you through which of them may benefit you.

What is sea moss?

Sea moss, also known as Irish moss, carageen, and scientifically called Chondrus crispus, is a type of red algae native. It is used industrially in carrageenan, which is used to refine products such as beer, and as a thickening agent. 

What are some health benefits of sea moss capsules?

  • Great for gut health. Sea moss is a great source of fibre, helping to keep the microbiome healthy and maintain a good environment for gut bacteria. 
  • Can help lower cholesterol and also may help with thinning the blood, according to a study.
  • Great source of essential nutrients such as calcium, iron and magnesium.
  • May help thyroid health. Thyroid glands are integral to balanced hormone production, and sea moss contains the important acids for the glads to do this, supporting thyroid health.
