Is All Glue Vegan-Friendly?
3min read
We interact with glue on a daily basis, adhesives are everywhere whether we see them or not. But the question is, are all glues vegan-friendly? Keep reading to find out.
Is glue always vegan?
The short of it is that no, not all glue is vegan-friendly. Whilst some aren’t tested on animals and don’t contain any animal ingredients, many still do and if you think about glues used in products you buy (like books, shoes and cereal boxes) it can easily become impossible to track.
What makes glue not vegan?
There are a few reasons why glue is not vegan-friendly.
Animal glue, which is typically associated with horses, can be made from any animal and is not vegan friendly. There are also glues containing isinglass and casein, animal-derived products from fish bladders and cow’s milk respectively. The majority of these are used in an industrial setting, however.
Vegan glue
You can easily find vegan-friendly glues in shops for personal use. According to Vegan Friendly, ‘brands such as UHU, Weldbond, Gorilla Glue and Elmer’s Glue are all suitable for vegans.’
