Some afternoons are simply made for baking. Or failing that, eating cake that you didn’t make. But we’ve been wondering: is cake vegan?

Cake is a general term that happily encompasses all types of baked, fried and even grilled sweet goods! Traditionally at the base of Western cakes, you’ll find some kind of flour, sugar, and a rising agent like bicarbonate of soda, a fat like butter or margarine and usually eggs as a thickening agent and emulsifier (something that keeps the mixture together).
Is Cake Vegan?
So, according to the ingredients listed above, no, cakes aren’t traditionally vegan-friendly. However, there are so many vegan recipes and plant-based alternatives that no one needs to miss out on a hearty slice of something tasty.
