Carrot cake is a traditional English recipe dating back to the 16th century – well, a version that included many of the same flavours and ingredients, but also meat which we can safely say is omitted from modern recipes.
Today’s carrot cakes are flavoured with cinnamon and vanilla, they include walnuts and are topped with a cream cheese frosting.
Is carrot cake vegan-friendly?
Most traditional carrot cake isn’t suitable for vegans as it can contain everything from eggs, butter, milk and cream cheese. However, there are many tasty vegan recipes for this dessert.
