Is Cashew Cheese Vegan?
2min read
Whether you’re filing a sandwich or putting out a lunch-time spread, cashew cheese might be just the thing you fancy. But is it vegan?
Cashew cheese
Cashew cheese is a tasty plant-based alternative to dairy cheese. It has a base of soaked and blended cashews instead of milk from cows, sheep or goats. Instead it uses live cultures, nutritional yeast and other natural flavours like herbs or even fruit.
It can be made in a variety of different ways to replicate the many different types of cheeses that already exist; from soft and spreadable cashew cream cheese to hard and semi-hard cashew cheeses.
Is cashew cheese vegan?
Generally yes, cashew cheese is suitable for vegans. It was designed to be a dairy alternative, so it should always be vegan. It’s definitely worth checking the labels in case of cross-contamination or the addition of non-vegan ingredients to be safe.
Is vegan cashew cheese healthy?
Absolutely – cashew cheese can provide a whole host of nutritional benefits as part of a balanced and varied diet. In one serving, you’ll get a good amount of healthy fats, key vitamins and minerals and if it’s been fermented or uses live cultures then it will be full of good bacterias too.
