Is Focaccia Vegan?
3min read
If you’ve been wondering ‘is focaccia bread typically vegan’ then you’ve come to the right place. Keep reading to have your question answered.
Focaccia
In our opinion, focaccia is the ultimate bread. It’s an Italian flatbread that’s now generally oven-baked, however, it was traditionally cooked on a hearth in ancient Rome. This is why the bread is named as such – focus means hearth in Latin.
The dough is stretched into a baking tray and coated with olive oil. You use your fingers to create dimples in the surface of the dough to which you can either just add a generous sprinkle of sea salt or ingredients like olives, onions or rosemary.
Is focaccia vegan?
Yes, in general focaccia is vegan-friendly as it uses olive oil as its fat which is plant-based and suitable for vegans. Very rarely a recipe might use eggs or butter, but this isn’t common and easy to avoid.
