2min read
In the world of grain-free flour alternatives, hazelnut flour is making big waves. Keep reading to learn all about it and whether or not it’s a keto-friendly alternative.
What is hazelnut flour?
Like almond flour, hazelnut flour is made by grinding hazelnuts into a fine powder with a small amount of sugar to stop it from turning into hazelnut butter – which is also delicious. It’s also known as hazelnut meal and that’s perhaps a more accurate definition of the ingredient. Unlike wheat-based flour, hazelnut flour is naturally gluten-free, so can be a great alternative.
Is hazelnut flour keto-friendly?
As hazelnut flour is grain-free it is suitable for people on a keto diet. It’s also low in carbohydrates which gives it a double tick!
What can you use hazelnut flour for?
Beyond just being a general flour substitute, hazelnut flour can bring a new flavour and texture profile to many dishes. It’s great in pastries, cakes and sweet bakes as well as being the perfect replacement for breadcrumbs in savoury recipes or to thicken sauces.
