Is Maple Syrup Healthy?

by Toni Olukiran

1min read

Maple syrup is a sweetener seen in many vegan cupboards to be added in porridges and drizzled over a stack of pancakes — but is maple syrup good for you, even if it is a natural sweetener? We’ve got everything you need to know here.

What is maple syrup?

Maple syrup is the sap collected from maple trees, which when heated forms concentrated maple syrup. For more information about the process, check out our blog post here.

Does maple syrup have nutritional value?

Maple syrup is very high in manganese and also has good levels of zinc, but other than these there are not many minerals to be found in maple syrup that provide a good source that can’t be found elsewhere.

Is maple syrup healthy?

Maple syrup, like a lot of things, is eaten in moderation due to its high sugar content. It is however a good natural alternative to sugar, so when it is incorporated into a balanced diet, it can still absolutely be a part of a healthy diet.
