Is Olive Oil Vegan?
1min read
Olive is a staple in many cupboards — and for many chefs out there, good quality olive oil is the bread and (vegan) butter of their favourite meals. But is it vegan? Read on for your questions answered.
A brief history of olive oil
Olive oil is used in everything from frying your favourite food and flavouring soups and salads to adding extra moisture and strength to your hair masques. It is a staple in Mediterranean cuisine and has historically been used for cosmetic purposes for thousands of years. Olive oil is the liquid obtained from pressing olives and extracting the oil.
Is olive oil vegan?
Thankfully, yes — olive oil is vegan, as it is derived from olives making it completely plant-based. Watch out for it when combined in other products though, as although pure olive oil is vegan, this may not be the case for any food or cosmetic products that have a blend of ingredients, so always double-check the label!
