Is Tartar Sauce Vegan?
2min read
This tart and tasty condiment is often reserved for fish and chips, but is tartar sauce itself vegan?
Tartar sauce
Tartar sauce is a seaside favourite in the UK, but traditionally comes from France. It’s made up of mayonnaise, chopped pickles, capers, olives, a splash of lemon juice and fragrant dill and parsley. As you can imagine, it’s tart, sharp, creamy and herby.
Is tartar sauce vegan?
Historically, no, tartar sauce isn’t vegan because it contains a considerable amount of mayonnaise which contains eggs, making it unsuitable for vegans. However, if you’re making your own at home you can just sub in plant-based mayo and it will be vegan friendly.
If you want to buy vegan tartar sauce, then you can pick up a bottle of this Inspired Vegan tartar sauce.
