Is Tom Yum Vegan?
2min read
We all enjoy a nourishing bowl of hot and sour vegetable broth that’s been flavoured with aromatic spices and herbs, but is Tom yum suitable for vegans?
What is Tom yum?
Tom yum is an aromatic and herby Thai-Chinese soup that can be traced back around 50 years ago to the invention of residents in Bangkok. The name means to mix and boil referring to its traditional cooking methods and is flavoured with lemongrass, galangal, kafir lime leaves, Thai chillies and coriander leaves.
Is Tom yum vegan?
Traditionally speaking, no – Tom yum isn’t always suitable for vegans as it often contains shrimp or pork and fish sauce. However, this isn’t always the case and we have a few favourite plant-based recipes that we can’t get enough of.
