Is Vegan Ice Cream Healthy?
2min read
Sometimes your favourite movie and a few scoops of ice cream are just what the evening calls for. But if you’re trying to be healthy, are vegan options the way to go?
From salted caramel to fruity fro-yo, the world of plant-based frozen goodies is a diverse and tasty one. Let’s take a look at which are the healthiest options to go for (that still feel satisfying with every spoonful).
Vegan ice cream
With so many plant-based milks to choose from as a starting point for vegan ice cream, it’s no surprise that this rapidly growing market is a tasty one. Although the base milk of the ice cream in question will have some impact on its overall nutrition, it’s what other ingredients have been used that plays the biggest part.
Is vegan ice cream healthy?
Yes, it can be healthy but it isn’t always.
Whilst plant-milk can have a pretty impressive nutritional CV of vitamins, minerals and protein, this doesn’t exactly balance out sugar and additives that might be included in ice cream.
Checking the nutritional labels is a good place to start when making an informed choice.
Lower calorie vegan ice cream brands
Our favourite lighter options are Swedish Glace, Alpro ice cream and Jude’s low cal vegan chocolate ice cream.
