Is White Bread Bad For You?
3min read
Have you been wondering if there’s any truth in the rumours that white bread isn’t any good for you? Well, if so, you’ve come to the right place – keep reading to have your questions answered and more.
Is white bread bad for you?
Depending on any intolerances you have, white bread could be a real inconvenience to you, or at best just not the best option. It might not be strictly ‘bad’ for you, but swapping to wholemeal or non-gluten bread might be a better option overall.
Why is white bread bad for you?
There is very little dietary fibre in most white bread compared to wholemeal and very little nutritional value in general. White bread can also cause your blood sugar levels to rise and fall sharply due to its low fibre slowing your digestion rate, but your body continues to absorb at the same rate. This can lead to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Lastly, as white bread is a refined carbohydrate it is more likely to cause weight gain in the long run.
