Our Favourite Non-Chocolate Vegan Desserts

by Toni Olukiran

2min read

Don’t get us wrong — we definitely go crazy for a good chocolate pudding. But for the times you’re craving something else that’s sweet and maybe a bit fruity, these recipes will definitely hit the spot.

Sticky toffee pudding

This sticky toffee pudding has all the sweetness and gooeyness of the original, except it's completely plant-based. This quick and easy recipe makes eight individual puddings (but can easily be baked in one large tin for minimal work) and is served with a sticky toffee sauce, but you're welcome (and encouraged) to double top with your favourite ice cream, custard or cream - go wild.

Lemon meringue pie

You’d be forgiven for thinking that a vegan version of a meringue pie wouldn’t be possible, but you’d also be mistaken. This meringue topping is made using aquafaba, and it creates deliciously sweet, fluffy and moreish meringue. With the addition of a tart, creamy filling and a buttery, crisp pie crust, this dessert consistently knocks it out of the park.

Vegan turon

This recipe takes a classic Filipino street food and makes it just as delicious when plant based. Turon is caramelised plantain and jackfruit in spring roll pastry sheets, making for a crispy, gooey, and perfectly sweet dessert (or an afternoon snack, because why not). Enjoy with a generous scoop of ice cream.

Vegan cherry pie

It doesn’t get much more American than the classic cherry pie, so if you’re feeling for a decadent dessert inspired by a classic from across the pond, this pie is it. It’s got everything you want from a tart like this: it’s sweet, a little tart, the inside is jammy, and the crust is buttery, crisp and flaky in equal measures.

Vegan Bakewell tart

Who needs chocolate when frangipane exists? Well, most people — but we can all appreciate a good Bakewell tart when we see one, and this one is great. Every layer of this tart works in perfect harmony for a buttery, sweet, nutty flavour in every bite. It’s dessert, part of a picnic, a mid-afternoon snack, or pretty much whatever you want it to be, whenever you want it.
