Chocolate mini rolls are made up from a thin chocolate sponge cake that’s topped with buttercream and then rolled up into a cylinder before being sliced and coated in chocolate.
The best-known brand of chocolate mini rolls are produced by Cadbury’s, but as they’re not vegan-friendly, we’re here to make some plant-based offerings.

This first recipe is based on the American Ho Hos rather than British Mini Rolls, however, for all intents and purposes, the end result is very similar!
If you’re wanted to bake vegan mini rolls for a special occasion then this recipe is perfect. They’re neat as a pin and topped with careful decorations.
Calling them ‘Swiss rolls’ is instantly a little more festive. This recipe from Little Blog Of Vegan is described ad ‘a rich chocolate sponge rolled up with a vanilla buttercream filling, coated in dairy-free chocolate, topped with a dash of powdered sugar and grated dairy-free white chocolate to serve’.
