The Secret To The Perfect Nap
Well, we make it sound like there’s one golden rule – this isn’t exactly true, but keep reading to discover some of the best tips to achieve a great 40 winks.
But first of all –
Are naps good for you?
It can be a fine balance to strike between a good and a bad nap, but once you’ve found what works for you, naps are great. They can boost productivity, support mental health and even help you make better decisions.
Why napping is good for you
Benefits of napping include better memory and general cognitive functions as well as a boosted immune system – this is because lack of sleep can quickly lead to an increase in pro-inflammatory markers and can cause immunodeficiency.
Plus, who doesn’t feel fresher after 20 minutes of shut-eye on a warm afternoon?
How to have a successful nap
Here are our three favourite nap tips –
- Pre-nap caffeine – This might sound counterintuitive, but it will help you wake up with a clearer head
- Don’t nap in bed – Choosing somewhere new to nap, like a sofa, will remind our bodies that we’re not bedding in for a full night’s sleep
- Make the room dark – This one might sound like it’s putting you at risk of sleeping too long, but it can help you have a better quality of sleep
