4min read
Crisp, creamy and flavourful, sweet and slightly savoury with every mouthful, and devastatingly moreish – just some of the reasons we love vegan cannoli, or cannolo Siciliano.
We’ve taken a look at our favourite desserts, and how having a bite of the right stuff can help make a difference.
With plant-based diets on the rise, we’re here to help you help the planet, and win over your taste buds at the same time. So here are our favourite vegan cannoli recipes for you to try at home:
What’s a cannoli?
This is the ultimate Italian treat with a crisp pastry shell and creamy, sweet filling – originally made from ricotta, but we think they’re even tastier when they’re plant-based and made with vegan cream cheese or sour cream, blended cashews or coconut cream. These pastry desserts have been a Sicilian staple for over one thousand years, and for us, it’s clear to see what all the fuss is about.
Traditionally, there’s white wine included in the pastry to keep it tender and extra flakey. This can generally be exchanged for water and a dash of vinegar too if you’d prefer. The shells are fried, cooled then generously filled with a delicate and creamy filling.
