by Fabian Jackson

4min read

Could a smart coffee maker be the solution to claiming back precious minutes in bed, or simply allow you to savour those quiet moments before your day really gets going? Keep reading to discover our favourite models available.

What is a smart coffee maker?

Smart coffee makers can do the morning’s toughest job for you and fill your home with the smell of freshly brewed coffee to wake you up. They’re today’s digital answer to the question: ‘how can we improve the Teasmade?’

If anyone doesn’t remember the Teasmade, it is essentially an alarm clock attached to a kettle which would wake you up with a fresh pot of tea at your chosen time (or five minutes before then when the kettle starts to whistle).

Our favourite smart coffee makers

Whilst they might not be the cheapest appliance you can buy for your kitchen, these smart coffee makers come in a variety of prices and capacities, meaning there’s something for everyone.

Tefal

At just under £80, Tefal’s Smart N Light filter coffee machine is at the cheaper end of the budget range. It can be set up to 24 hours in advance and hold up to 15 cups of coffee making it perfect for large families, or anyone working from home who likes a steady supply of caffeine.

As far as functionality goes, it’s a no-frills kind of machine as it’s only capable of making black filter coffee. But if that’s all you’re looking for, then this option is perfect for you.

Goat Story

This minimalist and stylish smart coffee maker has three main functionalities that can be controlled from your phone – it can brew pour-over, immersion-style and cold drip coffee (or tea if that’s what you’re in the mood for). It costs just shy of £200 and comes with a built-in precision valve to control the drip, an integrated precision scale, and a dedicated brewing app.

Nespresso

This is another smart coffee maker that can be controlled entirely from your phone. This model has a dedicated milk frother, so would be perfect for anyone who can’t start their day without an oat milk latte. Its functionality and sleek design is definitely worth the £300 price tag.

Barisieur

If you feel like going all-the-way-in with some coffee making art, then this sculptural Barisieur might just be the one for you. It’s been dubbed a revolutionary alarm clock and is sure to bring an added touch of chic grandeur to any space it calls home. It costs just under £400 and is the most aesthetically pleasing we’ve come across.
