Want to mix up your lunchtimes but need some inspiration? Keep reading for our tips on the best plant-based bento boxes.

What is a bento box?

Bento originated in Japan and can be traced back to the 12th century. It is a single-serve style meal that can either be homemade or a takeaway and is popular throughout East and South East Asia, with varying cuisines.

A bento box will traditionally include rice or noodles, some pickled or fresh vegetables and perhaps a type of meat or fish. The box itself will often have dividers to keep food items and flavours separate.
