Vegan Shopping Basket – The Best Vegan Beer
by Laura Barns
6min read
Thanks to the fact that veganism is slowly becoming more mainstream, it's never been so easy to pick up a vegan beer, whether in the supermarket or at your favourite pub. Here's a handful of our favourites available throughout the UK (and beyond).
Ruby Port BA Decadence
Intense cherry, red fruits and blackcurrant are layered between chocolate and smooth coffee to give a huge depth of flavour and aroma. So if you like your stouts indulgent, this is the one for you. Serve cold and allow to warm slightly for the flavours to really sing.
Best for: when you have the time to relax and drink slowly
Average price: £4.99
Availability: 2/5
Taste: 5/5
Overall rating: 3/5
Magic Rock Fantasma
The aroma and flavour are fruit-filled, dank and resinous, with plenty of tropical mangoes giving a moreish drinkability. The extra bonus is that as well as being vegan, this beer is gluten-free, too.
Best for: those avoiding gluten
Average price: £3.50
Availability: 2/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall rating: 3/5
San Miguel
The first beer on the list regularly found in local pubs and bars, this is a great fail-safe option if you're out and about and want a vegan-friendly pint. Whether from draught or bottle, you can't go wrong with an icy glass of San Miguel.
Best for: being your fail-safe, mainstream bar option
Average price: £3.99
Availability: 5/5
Taste: 3/5
Overall rating: 3/5
Beavertown Neck Oil
This is a favourite in our team, with lots of our allplanters loving unwinding with a can (or two) after work on a Friday. Beavertown has a great range of vegan-friendly beers, and this one *just* about clinches the winning title for us.
Best for: when you want something a little different but 100% delicious
Average price: £3.99
Availability: 3/5
Taste: 5/5
Overall rating: 5/5
Guinness
Guinness made waves in the vegan world a few years ago when it announced that moving forward, it's products would be fully-vegan. This is great news for those who love traditional beers seeped in history.
Best for: when you want a vegan beer in a traditional English or Irish pub
Average price: £3.50
Accessibility: 5/5
Taste: 4/5
Overall rating: 4/5
Corona
Another one you'll recognise from fridges behind the bar, you may be pleased to know this British pub staple is completely vegan. It's light, refreshing and does the job.
Best for: when you're out and about and fancy a no-frills option
Average price: £2.99

Estrella Damm
Another popular option you're likely to spot in slightly more elevated pubs and bars, this is the perfect accompaniment to British sunshine. Enjoy with a light lunch outside, before a quick siesta afterwards.
Best for: recreating a taste of the Med in a British beer garden
Average price: £3.50

Carlsberg
Another classic found in most high street bars and local pubs, Carlsberg is a great option for vegans who want a recognised, much-loved brand without the faff.
