Vegan Shopping Basket – The Best Vegan Yoghurt

by Laura Barns

6min read

Vegan and yoghurt. Not two words many people would put together, but thanks to the complete ingenuity of our favourite brands, it’s now a tasty reality.

Koko Dairy Free Plain Yoghurt

Koko are growing in popularity, so it would have been rude not to try their yoghurt. Due to the mild taste, this is a great option for adding to things like acai and granola bowls.

Best for: bulking up a vegan smoothie recipe

Average price: £2.00

Availability: 2/5

Taste: 4/5

Overall rating: 3/5

Nush Blueberry

The Nush range of vegan cheese (and more) is a favourite in the allplants development kitchen, so it’s no wonder we soon cottoned on to their yoghurts. We’re waiting for the day where all supermarkets stock the full selection.

Best for: curbing a nut and sweet craving in one hit

Average price: £2.00

Availability: 2/5

Taste: 5/5

Overall rating: 4/5

The Coconut Collab Mango and Passionfruit Yogs

There’s no denying that these Yogs are delicious, legendary and satisfy sweet cravings. Not as easy on the wallet as the others – the £2.50 is the average price of a small pot – you may want to choose another for your daily breakfasts and keep these for the weekend.

Best for: a healthy, sweet treat

Average price: £2.50

Availability: 4/5

Taste: 5/5

Overall rating: 4/5

Sojade Natural Soya Yoghurt

Sojade are the ultimate eco-business heroes – all of their ingredients are locally grown/sourced, and they even have their own water spring on site. The flavour? Light yet satisfying.

Best for: those who want an extra-planet-friendly option

Average price: £1.40

Availability: 2/5

Taste: 4/5

Overall rating: 4/5

Andros Peach Coconut Yoghurt

So, admittedly we may have discovered these when there was no Alpro in our local Morrisons, but what a discovery it was. Creamy, dreamy and as close to dairy yoghurt as we can remember.

Best for: lovers of regular yoghurt

Average price: £2.00

Accessibility: 4/5

Taste: 5/5

Overall rating: 5/5

Alpro Soya Vanilla Yoghurt

It’s the first one people tend to try, and it remains a failsafe option for those trying to reduce their dairy intake. It’s light, and the vanilla flavouring hides the taste of soya (we recommend this over their natural/Greek yoghurt options).

Best for: for dipping your toes into the world of vegan yoghurt (but maybe don’t actually dip your toes in yoghurt)

Average price: £1.70

Availability: 5/5

Taste: 3/5

Overall rating: 4/5

Tesco Free From Strawberry Yoghurt

Tesco’s own range is getting a great reputation amongst vegans. And with offerings like this vegan strawberry yoghurt, it’s easy to see why. Kids (big and small) will love them.

Best for: little ones who struggle with dairy

Average price: £1.70

Availability: 2/5

Taste: 3/5

Overall rating: 3/5

Oatly Oatgurt Natural

We have a LOT of Oatly-obsessed people in the team, though it was almost unanimous that this offering didn’t quite hit the mark as well as the milk. You win some, you lose some. Oatly, we still love you.

Best for: Oatly ride-or-dies

Average price: £2.50

Availability: 2/5

Taste: 2/5

Overall rating: 3/5

Stay tuned for the next instalment in our Vegan Shopping Basket series.
