The Vegan Society was founded in November 1944, making this year’s celebrations the society’s 78th anniversary, and since then has strived for the world to recognise the health, environmental and animal welfare benefits of veganism.

Who is the founder of the vegan society?
‘Donald Watson called [the first] meeting with five other non-dairy vegetarians, including Elsie Shrigley, to discuss non-dairy vegetarian diets and lifestyles. Though many held similar views at the time, these six pioneers were the first to actively found a new movement - despite opposition.’ (link)
