Why Avocado Oil Is Healthy
3min read
The health benefits of avocados are widely known – they’re full to the brim with healthy fats and their creamy texture and flavour have even become synonymous with luxury. But is avocado oil the new best way to reap its health benefits?
What is avocado oil
Avocado oil is one of the only edible oils that isn’t made from a seed but is instead made from the pulp of avocado fruit. When it’s cold-pressed, the oil is emerald green and keeps its distinct buttery, grassy avocado flavours and when unrefined it has similar levels of monounsaturated fat to olive oil.
Avocado oil also has an incredibly high ‘smoke point’ which means you can easily heat it to 250°C, which makes it ideal for frying and roasting. As well as in cooking, avocado oil is also often used in cosmetics as a lubricant.
Is avocado oil good for you?
Yes, avocado oil can be good for you. It’s rich in ‘good fats’, like heart-healthy oleic acid which generally boosts the body’s ability to absorb important fat-soluble nutrients. It’s also low in ‘bad’ cholesterol whilst being high in ‘good’ cholesterol.
Health benefits of avocado oil
- It’s high in lutein which is an antioxidant that’s great for eye health.
- It’s even thought to enhance the skin’s ability to heal
- Preventing gum disease
- And reducing the symptoms of arthritis
