Will A Vegan Diet Lower Cholesterol?
3min read
Have you been wondering if a vegan diet will help lower cholesterol? Then keep reading to discover more.
Cholesterol
According to Heart UK, ‘cholesterol is a fatty substance which is made in the liver. It’s found in some foods too.’
They say that in order to keep our bodies functioning properly, we all need some cholesterol, but having too much can lead to clogged up arteries and potential future health problems.
Will A Vegan Diet Lower Cholesterol?
Yes! According to the NHS website, a Swedish study has found that a vegan diet can in fact reduce levels of ’bad’ cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein or LDL).
Lots of these ‘bad’ LDL-cholesterols are generated by eating saturated animal fats. So cutting animal products from your diet and eating more vegetables is a widely recognised method for reducing bad cholesterol and lower the risk of heart attacks. As well as maintaining a healthy and balanced diet, regular exercise is also key here.
