In a short space of time Little Moons hit supermarket shelves, took social media by storm and were sold out everywhere. So what are they, and are they suitable for vegan? Read on to find out.

The popular social media app Tiktok popularised Little Moons, starting a craze of people buying up boxes and reviewing them online. The hashtag #littlemoons has 282.2 million views on the app alone, and this prompted them to be sold out in the retailers it was sold in for weeks. But what are they?

What are Little Moons?

Little Moons are mochi balls, a Japanese dessert made of rice dough and filled with delicious artisanal ice cream. Founded by brother and sister duo Howard and Vivian Wong in 2010, the brand has caught the attention of many — to the point you’ve struck gold if you’ve been able to find a box of the good stuff.

Are Little Moons Vegan?

Some flavours are indeed vegan, those on the diet will be pleased to know. These are:

  • Passionfruit and Mango
  • Belgian Chocolate

However, due to the soaring popularity of the passionfruit and mango flavour, we wouldn’t be surprised if more vegan flavours were to hit the shelves.

Can’t find any at your supermarket? No problem — you can try making our vegan mochi recipe instead!
