Plums are an underrated fruit that can be used in savoury salads or sweet crumbles and pies. But how good for you is the fruit itself? Find out what you need to know about its nutritional benefits here. 

What are plums?

Plums are small stoney fruits that grow on trees and are one of the first fruits to be domesticated. When plums are dried, they are known as prunes. They are in season in the UK between August and September, preferring a more mild climate.

Do plums have nutritional value?

Plums have several nutritional benefits, including:

  • Good source of vitamins A and C, which support the immune system and cell repair respectively
  • Good source of key minerals, including calcium and magnesium  
  • Great source of fibre

Are plums good for you?

Plums are a great fruit with a fair amount of nutritional benefits as well as being delicious. Providing a good range of essential nutrients, it can help body function in many ways and are easy to add to your diet.
