You can always rely on allplants for a tasty scoop on the best plant-based treats. And now that the weather’s getting warmer, we need to cool off, which means it’s time for one of our all time favourite foods - ice cream. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite ice cream brands, all of which are 100% vegan.
Nothing hits the spot on a hot summer’s day quite like a refreshing ice cream from the freezer (or actually at any time throughout the day. Anyone else with us on this?). From the mild (madagascan bourbon vanilla) to the wild (strawberry and black pepper anyone?), the flavour versatility of ice cream really does account for everyone’s tastes. And the great news is that with the amazing selection of milk alternatives now available, vegan ice creams are undoubtedly coming into their own.
To save you rummaging through the freezers at your local supermarket, we’ve compiled a list of the best vegan ice creams currently on the market.
Winner of the most fun brand name on our list, Booja-Booja has been creating mouth-watering vegan ice creams (and chocolate truffles) since 2007. With eight indulgent flavours on offer, their creamy range of cashew-based ice creams currently includes Caramel Pecan Praline, Raspberry Ripple and Hunky Punky Chocolate. Pass us a spoon.
Swedish Glace the Italian-style ice cream is made with soya, almond or coconut milk. Choose from a variety of scoopable tubs, cornettos and magnum-style chocolate covered ice lollies (or don’t choose, just get them all. No judgement here). Flavours include Vanilla, Raspberry, Chocolate, Almond with a Cocoa Twist and Coconut with a Passion Fruit Twist.
Self-described ‘ice cream alchemists’, Northern Bloc pride themselves on their bold flavours. From Chocolate and Orange Blossom to Strawberry and Black Pepper, they aim to cater to all tastes with their innovative range of vegan ice creams. Almost synonymous with ice cream itself, the taste pioneers over at Ben & Jerry’s have created lots of delicious vegan flavours made from almond milk: Peanut Butter & Cookies, Coconutterly Caramel’d, Chunky Monkey and Chocolate Fudge Brownie.
The undisputed king of the cones, Wall’s now offers a vegan Cornetto. This triangular treat is made of soya-based ice cream, lined with vegan chocolate, topped with hazelnuts and encased in a gluten and dairy-free cone. Need we say more.
Not sure what ice cream to choose? A Magnum will forever be a classic and is always a safe bet. And what’s great is Magnum now offers two vegan options: the Vegan Classic and Vegan Almond, made from. Now everyone can enjoy that signature “crack” when biting into the Magnum’s chocolate covering to enjoy the velvety dairy-free vanilla ice cream.
So there you have it – the best vegan ice creams to keep you cool this summer. Choose carefully, or just order them all. No judgement here. And don’t forget that ice cream makes the perfect accompaniment to pudding...a fluffy, creamy and crunchy slice of peanut butter pie, for example, is pure heaven with a scoop on top!
