How To Make The Ultimate Afternoon Tea Spread At Home
4min read
Sweet treats, savoury bites and of course the best tea blends are what you need to make your very own delicious vegan afternoon tea in the comfort of your home.
Vegan Sandwiches
Finger sandwiches are the bread and butter (sorry not sorry) of an afternoon tea – vegan or not, and these vegan sandwich fillings will add a twist to the staple.
Green Pesto Sandwich
Yes, cucumber sandwiches are iconic, but if you want to switch it up then try this green pesto sandwich. Cucumber combined with lettuce, avocado and hummus add some fun flavours to this original. Salty, green and definitely dreamy!
Leftover roasted veg sandwich
This colourful concoction will surely brighten up the platter. Roasted butternut squash, courgette and bell pepper make this sandwich flavourful and juicy and coupled with a smoky, tangy red pepper sauce, you can’t go wrong!
Savoury vegan afternoon tea bites
For those who love more savoury eats that sweet treats, load up on these bites that are perfect for any vegan afternoon tea.
Sausage rolls
We’ll use any excuse to eat these. They’re savoury, flaky crisp, and delicious. I don’t know about you, but we’ll always make room for a plate of these at any event.
Roasted tomato tart
Keep things classic and seriously tasty with this roasted tomato tart. Five ingredients are all you need to make this buttery and juicy vegan tart, perfect for afternoon tea when cut into dainty slices.
Sweet vegan treats
Vegan scones
It’s not an afternoon tea without scones, so have a go making this veganised version of the British staple. They’re soft, airy and flaky; topped with a good amount of the best vegan jam and a healthy (aka enormous) helping of homemade vegan clotted cream (included in the scone recipe — lucky you), they’re unbeatable.
Vegan cakes
Vegan lemon drizzle cake
Fluffy sponge combined with zingy and sticky lemon icing and bright candied lemon makes this cake perfect to indulge on in the day. Cut into bite-sized squares and you’ve got beautiful cakes to load up on a platter.
Bakewell Tart
It’d be silly not to include this one of the lists; the British staple will always find its way in afternoon tea spreads, as is its right. Sweet and nutty, you can’t say no to one (or five) slices of this stuff.
The best teas
There are loads of different flavoured teas out there that will complement such a great spread, but here are some favourites:
Formosa Jade Oolong tea
Whittard’s Formosa Jade Oolong tea is mellow and smooth — exactly what you want to sip after a hefty vegan scone.
Buck’s Fizz tea
I rave about this tea given any opportunity. Bubbly and tart, this is a great tea to add some sparkles to your tea afternoon — the blend has gold flakes in it!
