3min read
One of the most popular summer pudding to take to a BBQ or picnic is the Eton mess – a seasonal mash-up of berries, cream and meringue that’s sweet and tastes like sunny days. But is it vegan? Keep reading to find out.
Is Eton mess vegan?
Traditionally, no, Eton Mess isn’t vegan friendly because it uses dairy-based cream and meringue that’s made with egg whites. Fortunately, we know how to make delicious vegan-friendly meringues and where to buy the best plant-based cream!
What is a vegan Eton mess?
A vegan Eton mess is exactly the same concept –
- Fresh seasonal fruit (traditionally strawberries)
- Crushed vegan meringue (made from aquafaba instead of egg whites)
- Thick plant-based cream (we like oat)
Vegan Eton mess recipe
We love this ‘winter’ Eton mess recipe from our Food Editor, Val. It’s made with orange slices, fresh mint and dark chocolate shavings. Not just reserved for the colder months, we love this recipe all year round.
Are Eton Mess Candy Kitens vegan?
Unfortunately, the Eton Mess Candy Kittens sweets aren’t vegan-friendly. Even though they’re suitable for vegetarians, they actually contain beeswax as a glazing agent so aren’t suitable for anyone on a plant-based diet. Check out our favourite vegan sweets here though!
