Is Maybelline Cruelty-Free And Vegan?
1min read
Maybelline is a popular high-street brand that has continued to be a staple across several generations when trying their hand at makeup. But is it cruelty-free and vegan? Read on to find out.
About Maybelline
Maybelline is an American cosmetics company, founded in 1914 in Chicago by Thomas Lyle Williams. Williams saw his sister, Mabel, using Vaseline and coal dust to create an eyelash enhancer, and the first commercialised mascara was born (Williams went on to name the company after his sister). Today, Maybelline remains well-loved for their mascaras especially, but also carry makeup for eyes, lips and face at affordable prices.
Is Maybelline cruelty-free?
No, Maybelline is not cruelty-free. This is because Maybelline, like its parent company L’Oreal, operates in Mainland China where it is required by law to test imported makeup and skincare products on animals. This means that as long as it continues to trade in China, it cannot be deemed cruelty-free.
Is Maybelline vegan?
Many Maybelline products aren’t suitable for vegans, as they contain carmine and lanolin, however some products do not contain animal products in the ingredients. However, as Maybelline is not cruelty-free, some may argue that none of the products are truly vegan.
