As spring turns into summer, the variety of fruits and vegetables in season this May grow to reflect the change in season. Keep reading to find out what’s being grown around you and some of our favourite plant-based recipes championing those ingredients.
What produce is in season in May?
As the sun (hopefully) continues to shine for longer each day, this is the perfect time to re-tune what’s in season and growing all around us. Here are some of the grows that we’re most excited about.
In the UK in May you’ll be able to easily pick up:
- Asparagus
- Basil
- Broad beans
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Chives
- Cucumber
- Elderflower (forage pick)

Now for our favourite bit – what to do with all this seasonal produce in the kitchen
Asparagus galette
This would make an easy but impressive contribution to your next potluck or picnic – It's buttery, flaky and vibrant and fuss-free.
Roasted cauliflower salad
This salad is hearty, colourful and will soon become a firm favourite. This middle eastern inspired dish is nutritious, quick to make and very easy to eat a whole bowl-full by yourself.
Charred spring onion and sesame noodles
This savoury, caramelised and umami-packed noodle dish ready in around twenty minutes and is guaranteed to impress.
Rhubarb and chia pudding
It's fresh, juicy, slightly sweet and tangy all at the same time and will keep you full until lunch thanks to the oats.
