What is keto?
A ketogenic diet restricts carbohydrates but is high in fat and protein.
How does the keto diet work?
The keto diet, or food plan, ‘focuses on a high fat, high protein diet, whilst significantly limiting your carbohydrate intake. This macronutrient ratio forces your body into ketosis - a process by which your body burns fat, making things called ketones, which it uses for energy (as opposed to using glycogen from carbohydrate as its immediate energy source).’
Why do people go on a keto diet?
There are a few main reasons why the keto food plan is followed:
- Epilepsy control
- Weight loss
- Less hunger
- More energy
