Is Vegan Meat Healthy?
2min read
Many people are interested in a vegan diet for its health benefits, and vegan meat is often a big part of people’s diets especially when making the transition. But is vegan meat healthy, and is it in any way healthier than real meat? Read on for the lowdown.
What is vegan meat?
Vegan meat may sound like a contradicting phrase, but it’s definitely a thing (and it’s definitely delicious). It’s a plant-based product that emulates the taste and texture of traditional meat, and there is now everything from vegan chicken, to vegan duck, to vegan beef and pork. They can be made from a range of different plant-based foods — from wheat gluten to soy protein, depending on which product, brand and meat it is emulating.
Is vegan meat healthy?
Vegan meat isn’t necessarily always healthy — like traditional meat, it can depend on what form it’s in (vegan nuggets are unsurprisingly not going to fulfil all your nutritional needs for the day). However vegan meat can be lower in salt, saturated fat and trans fats, so it can still definitely be a healthier alternative to meat — especially red meat like beef and pork.
