Should You Try Oatly’s Creamy Oat (Single Cream) Next?
3min read
Looking for an authentic vegan cream to stir through your favourite curries or desserts? Well, today we’re seeing if Oatly might be the one for you.
What is vegan cream made from?
Oatly’s Creamy Oat has pleasingly few ingredients and all of them are (unsurprisingly) vegan-friendly! Its base is made up of oats that have been soaked in water and mixed with a little rapeseed oil. There’s a little salt, xanthan gum (a thickening agent made by fermenting sugar) and an emulsifier by the name E472e.
What does it taste like?
For anyone who knows (or can remember) the taste of cream – it simply tastes a whole lot like that.
And for anyone who doesn’t know what that flavour is, this thin vegan cream tastes slightly sweet but is mostly neutral compared to heavier whipping creams. This means it can be easily used in sweet or savoury dishes to add creaminess to a dish without too much sweetness.

How much does it cost?
Prices range from around 75p up to about £1.10 depending on the shop – but a fairly inexpensive ingredient overall that has the power to level up your cooking.
