Top tips to shake up your smoothies

Got a blender and a smoothie-making agenda? Here are some tips to help transform your smoothies and start your mornings right. 

You may have read our guide on vegan juices and smoothies and are looking to shake things up a little. If you now know your way around the blender and are looking for new ways to step up your smoothies, have a look at some of these tricks. 

Make it citrusy

Fancy adding some zest to your breakfast smoothies? Add a squeeze of lemon, lime, grapefruit or blood orange to brighten up your blend, get you ready for the day and give your smoothie even more dimension. A little of this truly does go a long way. 

Make it a milkshake

Got some bananas you can freeze? Milkshake-smoothie hybrids are good for the soul (and even better for the tastebuds). If you want to turn your smoothie into more of a decadent treat, try blending your bananas up with a little plant milk, some oats and a spoonful of your favourite vegan sweet spread. Banana and biscoff milkshake, anyone?

Spice it up

Not with chilli, don’t worry (unless that’s what you like, we don’t judge). But rather, get stuck into some herbs, subtle spices and aromatics. For creamy milkshakes with bananas, why not spice things up with a hit of cinnamon powder, turmeric or even ginger? Get some inspiration from our golden milk recipe and kill two birds with one stone with these energising flavours. Or for your berry smoothies, add some mint for extra freshness. Sometimes a little seasoning can change the game. 

Make it frozen

Even if you’re using frozen fruit, sometimes a little extra ice can give it some frosty feels. These smoothie-turned-slushies are the solution to anything from post-workout, hot flashes to those lovely summery warm days. A perfectly fruity cooler. 

Make it a smoothie bowl

Smoothie bowls are great if you want to give your smoothie some pizazz while also making you feel like you’ve got your life together. Make colourful creations that also taste great; we especially love Deliciously Ella’s Berry and Coconut smoothie bowl.

Use fun, unique fruits
