World Vegan Month 2020: Veganism And Animal Welfare
4min read
With plant-based diets on the rise, we’re here to help you celebrate World Vegan Month this November; and today, we’re spotlighting the positive effect that our vegan choices have on animal welfare.
What Is World Vegan Month?
World Vegan Month happens every November right across the globe. It’s a time of year when we can all come together in order to recognise and celebrate the positive effect plant-based living can have on our planet, health and animals.
This is an opportunity for the vegan community to support everyone who’s been wanting to be plant-powered for a while, but never found the time or those who are just vegan-curious.
Why is veganism key in animal welfare?
Opting for a plant-based lifestyle is not only delicious and healthy in the kitchen, but also the most effective way we can counter animal cruelty. Although a big factor, this isn’t exclusively about the meat and dairy industry. Unfortunately, animal products, testing and derivatives are used throughout cosmetics, fashion, lifestyle and manufacturing industries in countless ways.
It’s not all doom and gloom though, there are already so many plant-based, vegan-friendly and cruelty-free alternatives widely available: but by paying closer attention to the products we buy, use and consume, we can collectively reduce demand for the use of these animal-derived products. This, in turn, will make space for vegan innovations, inventions and solutions for everybody (vegan or not) to use in their everyday lives and reduce the need for animals to be involved.
How veganism can help support habitats
The idea of animal welfare extends beyond just those whose byproducts are used in non-vegan products, but also reaching animals whose natural habitats are destroyed and damaged in order to support livestock or fishing – think oceans, forests and even climate change.
How you can support the animals by participating in World Vegan Month
As well as looking into what we already use and buy in our daily lives, there are a few other fun, easy and exciting ways to help support animals this World Vegan Month, including:
- Simply enjoying a plant-based diet – be sure to check our Instagram for daily food-spiration
- Then, share your favourite vegan recipes via your social media – include pictures of your dishes and don’t forget to tag us so we can see them
- Recommending or gifting plant-based alternatives to family members and friends. Get everyone you know involved and show them that vegan options aren’t just viable, but also better. These could be anything from cleaning products and toiletries to a bottle of wine or even a box of allplants meals
- You could even go a step further and consider donating to a local or international animal welfare charity – the options are vast, but here are some ideas to pique your interest
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for more information from us this November about World Vegan Month and all the ways we can support you.
