The Best Cheesy Vegan Recipes You’ll Ever Need

Once upon a time vegan and cheesy recipes had no business with each other, but with a whole world of dairy-free cheeses and vegan replacements out there, vegan cheesy recipes are here to stay. Here are our favourites.

It's a cheesy dish that has no cheese or vegan cheese in it, and no, it's not by magic (though we understand why you’d jump to that conclusion). This cacio e pepe-style sauce using the starchy gnocchi water thickens up the ‘cheesy’ mixture for a silky, creamy and just-plain delightful gnocchi. A bowl of this cheesy goodness can be ready in as little as eight minutes, making it the perfect mid-week dinner for when life gets busy and you need some carbs, stat.

Mac and cheese is always a crowd-pleaser, so there was no way that this staple wouldn’t get the vegan treatment. Thanks to vegan cheddar and plant-based milk, a bowl of this is decadent, cheesy and tastes the same as the original. Hot and bubbly, there’s no way you won’t go for seconds (or thirds, realistically).

Cheesy pasta bake is a favourite of everyone from uni students to parents to grandparents. It's salty, rich and so easy. Topped with your favourite vegan mozzarella cheese, you’ll be left wondering how it's plant-based. It’s also a great one for batch cooking, so you can have it whenever you crave some.

Planted guest writer Jess Tattham dropped her recipe for this chilli cashew queso dip and we haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. A creamy sauce with a base of soaked cashews is combined with our vegan superhero ingredient nutritional yeast for a rich and drool-worthy dip perfect for everything from a dinner party with friends to a night in with a good film and some chips to match.

Another cheesy classic is a good Margherita, and it's a dish that is close to everyone’s hearts. The veganised version is just as delicious, just as ‘cheesy’ and just as moreish as the original. The base is crisp and golden, while the topping is the perfect ratio of tomato sauce to cheese, which is a science we seem to have mastered. Enjoy with vegan garlic bread for a fakeaway that won’t disappoint.

Thought vegan cheesy dishes had to be savoury? Think again. This carrot cake is fluffy and spiced, and the cream cheese frosting balances it out perfectly. A plant-based cream cheese mixture gives this carrot cake the perfect amount of richness you want and expect from desserts. You’ll use any opportunity to make this fool-proof crowd pleaser.
