As we enter August we’re well practised in fresh meals that don’t take long to throw together and we’ve got our go-to picnic favourites down – but what new produce is in season that we should experiment with? Keep reading to find out.
What produce is in season in August?
As the sun (hopefully) continues to shine and the evenings stay warm, this is the perfect time to check in with what’s in season and growing all around us. Here are some of the grows that we’re most excited about.
In the UK in August you’ll be able to easily pick up:

- Aubergine

- Broccoli

Courgette fritters
These crispy and crunchy fritters will make a great accompaniment to any evening al fresco meal. They have a great texture and flavour to match.
Mushroom shawarma
This recipe for Oyster mushroom shawarma is topped with miso tahini and zhoug for a fresh and spicy extra kick. It perfect for a late weekend lunch.
Miso glazed aubergines
We have a bit of a thing for aubergine recipes, so it was hard to pick a favourite, but this miso glaze has to be tried to be believed.
Savoury peach salad
Yep, you read that right – we know that fruit belongs in savoury dishes which is why we’re such fans of this crunchy and herby salad.
Strawberry galettes
These buttery and flaky vegan strawberry galettes deliver the same joy, bursting flavour and comfort as a pie, only with half the baking time and a quarter of the hassle!
All that’s left to do now is pick a starting recipe and find some great fresh ingredients.
